MY friend favorite Australian soccer team is Cock Burn City, he could not wait to see them play. Low and behold, he won't be able to see them play this year as they finished last place and relegated. For those who do not know what relegation is, in soccer terms its a teams doomsday. it meant your team would be demoted to a lesser league and had to climb its way back to the top. Normally its a rigorous task because you had to finish top 4 , in some league top 2 to get elevated back to the top league. However, in your newly demoted league, teams are hungry and will love to upset a formally top team, it gives them credibility. As they say, "misery enjoys company" and these teams would love to see you stay in their bottom league. These teams will love to be promoted themselves, so it won't be easy competing an entire season with hungry desperate teams. For many years Australia had a problem, many teams and leagues but not quite united. They always had Australia A League their top flight clubs compete, but no clear second or third divisions like most other countries. As the traditional regelation format would be getting sent down to league b, or c respectively, or getting promoted upwards where you can be invited to world events like Europa cup , Europe championships. As it stands in Australia now, it seems relegated teams are sent home for a year or so, and me and my friend joked about his favorite team being told to sit out a year and find some players for being so sorry.
